ITA: Sessant’anni dopo, l’appassionante ritorno di un film tra storia e leggenda. Nel 1965, tre anni dopo l’indipendenza dell’Algeria, il regista italiano Gillo Pontecorvo ricostruisce nel suo film la battaglia di Algeri (1956-1957). Il film in bianco e nero dall’estetica ispirata dei fatti di attualità ha l’effetto di una bomba e si guadagna il Leone d’Oro a Venezia nel 1966. La delegazione francese boicotta la consegna del premio e il film resta di fatto vietato per anni nelle sale cinematografiche francesi.

En 1965, trois ans après l’indépendance de l’Algérie, le cinéaste italien Gillo Pontecorvo entreprend le tournage d’un film reconstituant la bataille d’Alger (1956-1957). Ce film en noir et blanc à l’esthétique inspirée des actualités fait l’effet d’une bombe et rafle en 1966 le Lion d’Or à Venise. Son tournage à Alger a servi de leurre pour faire entrer plus discrètement les chars de l’armée de Boumediene dans la ville lors du coup d’état qui renverse le Président Ben Bella…

ENG: In 1965, three years after Algeria gained its independence, Gillo Pontecorvo began to shoot a film reconstituting the events of the Battle of Algiers (1957). The black and white newsreel-style film took the 1966 Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. Effectively banned in France until 1971 in cinemas. Whereas Alger is the capital refuge of all anti-colonial fighters, the young Algerians identify with the legendary hero of the film, Ali la Pointe. In the 70s, for the spectators of the whole world, the film becomes the mirror of an epic.
